This is a PhD research project run by Katherine Stansfeld at Royal Holloway, University of London.
Using qualitative and ethnographic research methods it explores the local experiences of place in the diverse, multicultural area of Finsbury Park, North-East London. It investigates place as multiplicity – how it is made up of many different subjectivities and experienced in many different ways.
I am particularly looking at how people name and talk about place, construct boundaries and identify with local landmarks and spaces. The research investigates the potential of mapping to engage local people in representing a ‘super-diverse’ neighbourhood.
